The Stoa of Attalos. The Museum of the Ancient Agora
The Museum of the Ancient Agora of Athens, one of the capital's most important archaeological sites, is housed in the restored building of the Stoa of Attalos. In antiquity, stoas were public buildings, with at least one side supported by columns and open to the outdoors. Stoas are found in sanctuaries, agoras, theaters, and gymnasia. Normally, they served to house commercial activities and as a place for walks, providing shade and cool in the summer and protection from rain and wind in the winter.
The Stoa of Attalos owes its name to the King of Pergamon, Attalos II (159-138 BC) from the Macedonian dynasty of the Attalids, who funded its construction. Son of King Attalos I and Queen Apollonis and brother of Eumenes II (197-159 BC), he was a friend and benefactor of the Athenians, in common with his brother, who paid for the construction of another stoa on the south slope of the Acropolis. When they were young, the two brothers had studied philosophy, rhetoric and logic in the schools of Athens.

Gaiman Neil
O Neil Gaiman (Neil Richard MacKinnon Gaiman, όπως είναι το πλήρες του όνομα) είναι ένας από τους πιο καταξιωμένους και δημοφιλείς Βρετανούς συγγραφείς της γενιάς του. Έχει γράψει βιβλία, κόμιξ, graphic novels, σενάρια για ταινίες και σειρές, θεατρικά και δοκίμια για τη λογοτεχνία.
Ο Gaiman είναι ο δημιουργός και ο σεναριογράφος του διεθνούς αριστουργήματος THE SANDMAN, που γνώρισε ευρεία λογοτεχνική καταξίωση όταν το τεύχος #19 (“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”) κέρδισε το World Fantasy Award for Short Fiction το 1991.
Το πρόσφατο έργο της σειράς, το THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE, κέρδισε το 2016 το Hugo Award for Best Graphic Fiction. Βρίσκεται επίσης στη λίστα των New York Times ως ο συγγραφέας best seller μυθιστορημάτων, διηγημάτων, σεναρίων και graphic novels για όλες τις ηλικίες.
Κάποια από τα πλέον διάσημα έργα του είναι το American Gods, το οποίο απέσπασε τα βραβεία Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker και Locus, το The Graveyard Book, που είναι το πρώτο βιβλίο που κέρδισε τόσο το Newbery όσο και το Carnegie Medal, και το The Ocean at the End of the Lane, που κέρδισε τον τίτλο του Book of the Year για το 2013 στα National Book Awards του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου.
Το βιβλίο του με τίτλο Norse Mythology είναι μια διασκευή των μύθων του Σκανδιναβικού Πάνθεου και των γιγάντων όπως καταγράφονται στις έμμετρες Eddas, ενώ πρόσφατα διασκεύασε το Good Omens, το μυθιστόρημα που συνέγραψε μαζί με τον Sir Terry Pratchett, σε μια σειρά έξι επεισοδίων για το BBC και τα Amazon Studios.
Επιπρόσθετα από τις δουλειές του στη λογοτεχνία και την τηλεόραση, ο Gaiman είναι καθηγητής Καλών Τεχνών στο Bard College. Έχει τέσσερα παιδιά και είναι παντρεμένος με τη συγγραφέα και καλλιτέχνιδα Amanda Palmer.
